Pedestrian Killed In Accident In Galloway Township: Police

The accident took place as the man was crossing Jimmie Leeds Road Wednesday night.

Galloway Township, NJ -- A 61-year-old Galloway man is dead after he was hit by a car while walking near Jimmie Leeds Road and Ridgewood Avenue, police said early Thursday morning.

David T. Jackson was walking on Jimmie Leeds Road at about 8:04 p.m. Wednesday night when he went to cross the road to Ridgewood Avenue, according to witnesses and evidence collected by police.

He crossed directly into the path of a silver 2002 Honda Accord being driven by 23-year-old Bria M. O’Brien, who was heading east.

Jackson was hit by the car, and pronounced deceased on the scene, Galloway Township Police said.
O’Brien was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Division, and treated for minor, non-life threatening, injuries.

Galloway Township Ambulance Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and Galloway Township Police all responded to the scene.

No summonses were issued.

The road was closed for about three hours.

Jackson was a tax assessor in Galloway Township for over 30 years, retiring two years ago, according to The Press of Atlantic City.
