Possible Shark Bite Injures Jersey Shore Swimmer: Reports

VENTNOR CITY, NJ — A man was hospitalized Sunday after a possible shark bite at a Jersey Shore beach, according to reports.

6abc Action News said the injury happened at about 9:30 a.m. at Surrey Avenue Beach in Ventnor.

A man in his 30s suffered a laceration to his hand while lifeguards were preparing to open the beach to the public, according to NJ Advance Media.

But the captain of the Ventnor City Beach Patrol told that outlet that the shark bite was not confirmed because no one saw a shark in the water - not even the man who was bitten.

The chief told Downbeach.com that instead of a shark it could have been a skate, with a barbed tail, or a bluefish.
