Recent 'Creepy Clown' Sightings In Galloway Are Hoaxes: Police
There are legal consequences for anyone who participates in this nationwide practice.

Galloway Township, NJ -- Sightings of people wearing clown masks and a “concerning photo” of Absegami High School posted on social media by an anonymous “creepy clown” are all hoaxes, police said Thursday morning.
“We have investigated each and every incident thoroughly and it appears these actions were pranks, similar to those seen around the country,” Galloway Township Police said in a statement. “We are closely monitoring the situation and have increased patrols in the vicinity of our schools as well as recreational areas as a precaution.
“Although we live in a safe community, a simple prank can get out of control resulting in danger for all involved. Residents and everyone involved should be aware that these incidents are at the very least a breach of the peace, which will result in charges against the perpetrators when apprehended.”

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office recently released a similar message warning about hoaxes. In that message, Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton spelled out some of the penalties for those filing fake police reports.
Parents need to make their children aware of that, and adults shouldn’t participate in the hobby that has taken over idle minds across the country, Dalton said.

He warned that anyone under 18 convicted of causing a false public alarm faces a six-month suspension of driving privileges and other possible penalties.
An adult convicted of the same crime is subject to 5-10 years in prison if a serious injury occurs.
Those who have engaged in the recent threats are also considered to be making false reports to law enforcement and making communications to harass.
