Second Legislative District Assembly Race Remains in Dispute
Two votes separate incumbent John Amodeo and challenger Vince Mazzeo, and 118 provisional ballots have been challenged.

More than a week after Election Day, residents in the Second Legislative District still don’t know who one of their representatives in the General Assembly will be.
One of the Second Legislative District Assembly seats remains up in the air after the final vote tally conducted by the Atlantic County Board of Elections on Wednesday, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
The final total vote tally following two days of provisional vote counting has incumbent Republican Assemblyman John Amodeo leading Democratic challenger and Northfield Mayor Vince Mazzeo, 25,090-25,088, according to the report.

There are also 118 challenged provisional ballots still to be counted out of Pleasantville and Atlantic City, according to the report. A Superior Court judge will determine the validity of the challenged ballots.
After voters went to the polls last Tuesday, unofficial results showed incumbents Amodeo and Chris Brown were re-elected. Amodeo led Mazzeo, 23,047-22,668.

However, the Atlantic County Board of Elections spent two days earlier this week counting 1,200 provisional ballots, according to the report. Some ballots were challenged due to poll worker assistance, and some were challenged because their home address conflicted with the polling location in which they voted.
With the vote split 2-2 on the board, the decision now rests with the Superior Court, according to the report.
The Second Legislative District is comprised of Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Buena, Buena Vista, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Folsom, Hamilton, Linwood, Longport, Margate City, Mullica, Northfield, Pleasantville, Somers Point and Ventnor City.
