Stockton Baseball Goes 5-5 in Florida

The Ospreys scored 28 runs over the course of two games during the trip.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey baseball team split things right down the middle during its trip to Florida.

The Ospreys won five games during their trip, which lasted from March 10-16. They also lost five, including a pair of defeats at the hands of the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday, according to statistics posted on stocktonathletics.com.

The trip began with a tough 5-4 loss to Bridgewater State. Bridgewater took a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning. The Ospreys responded in the bottom half of the frame, pulling within one, but was never able to completely answer the deficit. The loss was followed by a 7-2 loss to Wesley College.

The Ospreys responded with a pair of close wins, including a 5-4 win over Wesley, which was the first defeat suffered by Wesley this season. Stockton also defeated Norwich University, 3-2, behind Shawn Kessler, who was 2-for-4 and an RBI. Bryan Bessinger spelled the ultimate difference in that game, in the second inning when he walked, stole second and scored on an error.

Solomen went 2-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI while Travis Marra was 2-3 with a run and an RBI in the win over Wesley.

In its next two outings, the Ospreys split a doubleheader with Messiah College. The Ospreys dropped a 2-1, 10 inning decision, but bounced back with a 6-0 win over Messiah. In the second game, Ocean City’s Kolya Stephenson made his debut as an Ospreys pitcher, fanning seven and tossing a shutout. Mark Jenkowski went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run in the win.

The Ospreys then posted 28 runs in a pair of victories, 14-2 over Norwich and 14-1 over Hilbert College. George Eisenhart had three hits and three runs in the first win, Erik Danser was 2-for-4 with four RBI and Justin Gordon was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs. Brendan Stout picked up the win on the mound.

The Ospreys dropped the final two games of the trip to St. Scholastica, 10-7 and 4-3. A solo home run by St. Scholastica broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning of the second game for the win.

To this point, the Ospreys are 9-7 on the season. The Stockton baseball team returns home to host Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham on Wednesday, March 20 at 3:30.
