GALLOWAY, NJ — Galloway police identified the victim of Monday's fatal car crash. Jon Liguori, 21, died in the accident, police said Thursday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Liguori competed for the Stockton University men's lacrosse team. He played in all 21 games last season, helping the Ospreys earn their first conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

The team set up a GoFundMe to assist Liguori's family with funeral costs. Donors have raised $33,263 as of Thursday evening.

"Jon had a contagious smile that everyone was drawn to and was loved by so many," the GoFundme says.

Liguori, of Philadelphia, died in the crash after his vehicle hit a utility pole Monday afternoon, police said. Police found a 2002 Saturn engulfed in flames while he was still inside.

Officers and two citizens attempted to rescue the driver, but were unsuccessful. Wrangleboro Road was closed for three hours during the initial investigation.
