Stockton University Hosts Golf Tournament for Vets May 1

The tournament is named for Colonel Kenneth R. Stow, who served in the Air Force for over 30 years.

The Office of Veteran Affairs and Stockton University’s Student Veterans Organization are sponsoring a golf tournament to benefit the University’s student veterans.

The Colonel Kenneth R. Stow Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club on the Bay Course in Galloway on Friday, May 1, with a four-person best ball scramble starting at noon. All proceeds directly benefit scholarships for Stockton student veterans.

An awards dinner follows at 6 p.m. This includes Stockton’s post 9/11 combat student veterans who qualify receiving Distinguished Service Medals or Meritorious Service Medals from the New Jersey Department of Veteran Affairs.

Stow served more than three decades in the U.S. Air Force. His wife, Dr. Jo Frances Stow, honors his memory each year through the Colonel Kenneth R. Stow Veterans Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to returning U.S. military veterans attending Stockton.

“I am very proud to be a part of a university that is known for our Veteran Affairs initiatives,” Thomas O’Donnell, assistant dean of students at Stockton University, said. “The money we raise for our brave men and women who serve this great nation allows them to continue their educational dreams and become outstanding leaders in our communities. Stockton leads the way by doing the right thing for our heroes.”

Stockton’s Office of Veteran Affairs provides comprehensive support for over 400 veterans and active service members to meet their unique academic needs.

In November, Stockton was named to the “Best for Vets: Colleges 2015” listing by Military Times, an organization comprised of the Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times.

The tournament fee of $125 per person includes greens fees, golf cart, gift bag and awards dinner. Tournament sponsorships are also available. Cost to attend the dinner and awards ceremony only is $50 with a cash bar.
