Stockton University to Shut Down During Expected Storm

The Blizzard Watch was upgraded to a Blizzard Warning on Friday.

Galloway, NJ -- Due to expected inclement weather, Stockton University will close the Galloway campus and its instructional sites in Atlantic City, Woodbine, Hammonton and Manahawkin at 6 p.m. on Jan. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 24, the University announced on Friday.

On Friday morning, the Blizzard Watch that had been in effect for New Jersey was upgraded to a Blizzard Warning, with up to 18 inches of snow projected to fall on South Jersey.

Snow was expected to begin to fall Friday night and intensify on Saturday into early Sunday, with winds of 20 to 30 mph in the forecast.

The potential for flooding on Route 30 over the weekend is high, and people are advised to stay off the roads during high tide.

Flooding may also occur on the Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City, and Shore Road New Roa and Mill Road in Absecon.

Anyone traveling into Atlantic City is advised to use the Atlantic City Expressway, but Atlantic City may also experience flooding.

Absecon Police provided the following tips on Friday night:

1. If you do not absolutely have to be on the roads, stay home. This aids in emergency vehicles moving about, reduces the risks of accidents and collateral accidents involving emergency response vehicles to your accident.
2. Park in your driveways to aid with snow plowing operations.
3. Do not pass plow trains, if you must drive.
4. If a State of Emergency is declared, it means only essential emergency and government personnel are allowed to be on the roads.
5. 9-1-1 is for reporting emergencies only. To report power outages or other utility emergencies, contact your utility provider. Calling 9-1-1 for these matters will tie up the emergency lines. Please utilize the non-emergency number.

Additionally, the performance of The Atlantic Symphony on Sunday, Jan. 24 at the Stockton Performing Center has been canceled due to the impending bad weather. There will be an announcement of the rescheduled performance at a later date.

The South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming Association high school coaches invitational meets scheduled for Gloucester Tech on Saturday have been postponed to next Saturday, Jan. 30, according to nj.com.

Division A will still swim at 10 a.m., followed by Division B at 4 p.m.
