Texas Teen Caught In South Jersey Home Burglary: Police

Zachary Watts broke into the Egg Harbor Twp. home by tearing a basement window screen. The homeowner returned while he was inside, cops say.

EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ — An 18-year-old from Texas was apprehended in an Egg Harbor Township home burglary, police said.

Police received a call on Sept. 14 that a white male with blond hair, wearing a grey sweatshirt and camouflage pants, had burglarized a house in the Scullville section of town but fled the scene.

The suspect, Zachary Watts, 18, was located and taken into custody without incident, police said.

Watts, of Colleyville, Texas, was found in possession of stolen property belonging to that home, police said.

Watts had entered the then-unoccupied home by tearing a basement window screen, police said. He then made his way to the master bedroom, where he stole additional property, police said.

The homeowner returned during the burglary and confronted Watts in the living room and kitchen area, police said. Watts then fled back downstairs and left through the same basement window, police said.

Watts remains at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on pending charges.
