YouTube Duo Help NJ Police Catch Alleged Sex Predator: Police

A YouTube duo led local authorities to a child luring suspect in Egg Harbor Township on Sunday, according to local police.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ - A YouTube duo led local authorities to a child luring suspect in Egg Harbor Township on Sunday, according to police.

Roger Tomes, 57, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with luring, Egg Harbor Township police said.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on the 100 block of Longport Boulevard, police said, when Egg Harbor Township responded to a report of attempted child luring to a boat slip at Graef’s Boat Yard.

At the scene, police were met by two individuals who run a YouTube channel aimed at catching child predators, police said.

The YouTube creators told police that they create accounts on dating websites and pose as young girls, police said. The YouTubers added that Tomes believed he was meeting a 15-year-old girl on his boat to engage in sexual activities.

If convicted, Tomes faces between five and 10 years in state prison and up to a $150,000 fine, police said.

The investigation was conducted by Patrolman John Beattes and Detectives Jacob Hunter
and Paul Janetta of the Egg Harbor Township Police Departments Criminal Investigations
Bureau.
