TETERBORO, NJ — On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Bergen County Technical High School will host the third annual Bergen Tech Hackathon, a full-day coding competition organized by high school students. Running from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Teterboro campus, the event invites students of all skill levels—from first-time coders to experienced programmers—to form teams, build original software projects, and compete for over $5,000 in cash prizes. Entry is free for all participants.
The effort is supported by the Bergen Tech Computer Science Parents (BTCSP), a volunteer-run parent group.
Open to High Schoolers
The 2026 hackathon welcomes high school students from both Applied Tech and Teterboro, regardless of prior coding experience. The event is designed to be approachable for beginners and challenging for advanced students alike, creating an environment where participants learn from one another while building projects they can be proud of.
A Growing Tradition of Innovation
Since its founding in 2024, the Bergen Tech Hackathon has quickly established itself as one of Bergen County’s premier student-led technology events. In 2025, participation doubled to 100 students, with 14 participants writing code for the very first time. Projects are evaluated by a panel of judges using a science fair–style format, scoring teams on both execution and ambition.
Several past participants have returned as volunteer judges in subsequent years, a testament to how deeply the experience resonates with the student community.
