13-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in South Jersey

Police discovered the teenager lying on the sidewalk in Camden Thursday night.

A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot in Camden Thursday night, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson.

Camden County Police found Nathaniel Plummer Jr., of Camden, lying on the sidewalk on the 2900 block of Line Street in Camden after responding to a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls reporting a shooting at 11:15 p.m.

He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 12:14 a.m. on Friday.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.

Plummer’s mother believes he was on his way to his grandmother’s house in East Camden, according to the Courier Post. She was raising him on her own because his father is incarcerated.

Plummer Jr. was a student at Octavius V. Catto Community School in East Camden, according to the report. His mother told the newspaper he was an excellent writer who enjoyed football, basketball and boxing. She said he was “just a baby who didn’t deserve this.”

Crisis counselors were available at his school on Friday to support students, family and staff struggling with his sudden death, according to the report.
