3 More Gloucester Township Residents Die Due To Coronavirus
As of Wednesday, there were 879 cases of the coronavirus and 57 confirmed deaths in Gloucester Township.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Three Gloucester Township residents were among eight new coronavirus-related deaths announced in Camden County on Monday.
Two Gloucester Township men in their 70s and a Gloucester Township woman in her 90s were among the new coronavirus-related deaths that were reported from Aug. 1-3, according to Camden County officials.
As of Wednesday, there were 879 cases of the coronavirus and 57 confirmed deaths in Gloucester Township. Countywide, there are 8,964 cases of the coronavirus and 546 confirmed deaths.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these most recent victims. Every life lost to this virus is a tragedy, and we are wishing a fast and full recovery to each of our residents who recently tested positive for COVID-19,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said, “Our statewide transmission rate is much higher than it has been for several weeks, signaling that this virus is once again beginning to make its way through New Jersey communities at a dangerous rate. We have to do everything in our power to stop coronavirus from regaining a foothold in our community. Keep wearing a mask, social distancing, and avoid gatherings with large groups of people.”

On Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced the statewide transmission rate was up to 1.48 percent, the highest it’s been since early April. He also announced that indoor gatherings were once again being restricted to 25 people and 25 percent capacity per room, reversing a previous increase to 100 people. According to the Camden County Department of Health, there are 1,340 confirmed cases among residents at the county's long-term care facilities, with 311 deaths. Another 512 cases were reported among staff members with three deaths.
Trace investigations are underway in all new cases. The following information is available about new coronavirus cases reported in Gloucester Township from Aug. 1-3:
- A girl older than 10;
- Two men in their 40s;
- Two women in their 20s;
- Three women in their 50s;
- A woman in her 30s;
- Two women in their 60s;
- A juvenile boy of unknown age;
- A man in his 60s; and
- A man in his 30s.
On Tuesday, Cappelli and Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1), Assemblyman Bill Spearman, and Reginald Blaber, MD, Virtua Health’s Executive VP and Chief Clinical Officer will provide an update on the county's response to the pandemic.
