9 Black Horse Pike Regional Wrestlers Chasing Region 8 Titles

The tournament began Wednesday and continues this weekend.

Nine wrestlers from the Black Horse Pike Regional School District continue their quest for a regional title Friday night.

The District 8 tournament began Wednesday night at Egg Harbor Township, with the pre-quarterfinal round. The quarterfinals are set for Friday night, with the semifinals and final scheduled for Saturday.

The wrestleback rounds also take place on Saturday, giving any wrestler who loses in the quarterfinals or the semifinals the opportunity to earn a third-place finish. The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state championships at Atlantic City on March 4-6.

Two wrestlers from the school district are pursuing the 195-pound title.

Highland’s George Duddy is the No. 8 seed, and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-1 win over No. 9 Amaury Ortiz, of Atlantic City. Duddy will face No. 1 Chad Watt, of Woodstown, in the quarterfinals. Watt is the top seed with just two losses this season.

On the other side of the bracket, Timber Creek’s Kashon Gordan is the No. 6 seed and received a bye past the pre-quarterfinal round. He will face No. 3 Kolin Roberts, of Mainland, in the quarterfinals.

Highland’s Justin Cariss, the No. 8 seed at 120, advanced to the quarterfinals by pinning No. 9 Joham Garcia DelValle, of Vineland, in two minutes, 32 seconds. He will face No. 1 Trace Kinner, of Kingsway, in the quarterfinals. Kinner is the top seed with just one loss this season.

Highland’s Seth Henry is the No. 3 seed at 106 and received a bye past the pre-quarterfinal round. He will face No. 6 George Coleman, of St. Augustine, in the quarterfinals.

Highland’s Lucas Siegfried is the No. 2 seed at 113 and received a bye past the pre-quarterfinal round. He will face No. 7 Connor Kraus, of St. Augustine, in the quarterfinals. Kraus pinned Triton’s Chance Donahue, the No. 10 seed, in 49 seconds in the pre-quarterfinal round.

Timber Creek’s Domenic Augello is the No. 7 seed at 126 and received a bye past the pre-quarterfinal round. He will face No. 2 Travis Layton, of Woodstown, in the quarterfinals.
