ACENDA Integrated Health Receives $45,000 Grant

Acenda Integrated Health has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the United Way of Gloucester County (UWGC) to support its Older Adult Services program, an in-home mental health treatment program designed specifically to support adults age 60 and older as well as their family caregivers.

"Adults over the age of 60, who are homebound due to medical limitations, are increasingly at-risk for depression and suicide. With limited or no access to mental health services, Acenda's Older Adult Services program, funded by a grant from the United Way, fills a critical gap in service, providing barrier-free access to treatment that improves the quality of life for Gloucester County residents,” said Bridget DeFiccio, Senior Vice President, Acenda Integrated Health.

Studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that 7 million American adults over the age of 65 experience depression each year, and that adults over the age of 65 made up 16 percent of all suicide deaths in 2004. Acenda’s Older Adults program addresses this public health problem by providing psychoeducation, support groups and one-on-one behavioral/mental health counseling – primarily focused on depression, anxiety, stress and coping.

These services can be provided at any location desired by the recipient or caregiver, but the initial focus is always in-home support because it eliminates any obstacles, such as transportation or health conditions, that would impact a recipient from having access to the services.

Funding from the UWGC allows Acenda’s Older Adults program, which currently serves 100 adults each year, to continue to provide in-home and in-community support and expand its current services.
