A Camden man has been convicted of murder in connection with the 2014 fatal shooting of an Audubon man, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Audubon Police Chief Thomas Tassi announced.
Brandon Mosby, 26, was found guilty of second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons in the death of 48-year-old John Carey.
Carey was shot at a home on the 500 block of the White Horse Pike on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.
At the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Nevan Soumilas presented evidence and testimony showing Mosby killed Carey because Carey interfered as Mosby was beating his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him earlier in the day, according to the prosecutor's office.
When the alleged assault spilled into a common area of the home, Carey intervened in an attempt to protect the woman and her toddler, according to the prosecutor's office.
The evidence presented at trial showed that Mosby shot Carey once in the torso and then fled the scene, according to the prosecutor's office. Mosby faces 30 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8.
