BERLIN, NJ — An aide at the Berlin Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center sexually assaulted a patient, the Berlin Police Department said.
Frantz Louis, 57, of Sicklerville, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault of an incapacitated or helpless victim and fourth-degree endangering another person.
On July 3, at around 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the facility at 100 Long A Coming Lane for a report of a sexual assault of an elderly woman.
Authorities met with the woman and her power of attorney and were told that she was assaulted by a staff member during the prior 48 hours.
"Upon becoming aware of these serious allegations, our team acted immediately in accordance with established protocols, notifying law enforcement and reporting the matter to the appropriate regulatory agencies," administrator Derrick Henry with Berlin Rehabilitation told Patch.
Officials identified Louis on Monday after interviewing potential suspects.
Louis confessed to the sexual assault while talking with detectives, police said, and was taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility to await a Superior Court detention hearing.
Berlin Rehabilitation has confirmed to Patch that Louis was "promptly suspended" and has been fired.
Anyone with information regarding this situation or others like it is asked to contact Detective Ashton Polig with the Berlin Police Department at (856) 767-4700.
