Former EMT Found With Child Porn In NJ, Prosecutor Says

BERLIN, NJ — A 31-year-old man was sentenced after being found with more than 1,000 files of child porn, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jeremy Algarin, of Berlin, was sentenced on Friday to five years in jail after he pleaded guilty on June 22 to one count of second-degree distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

An online tip led detectives to a Discord account used to possess and distribute CSAM.

Discord is an online platform where individual users and groups can message each other to discuss a range of topics.

Algarin was identified as the operator of the account and had a cell phone that had CSAM files on it, officials said.

More than 1,000 photos and videos showing CSAM were ultimately found on multiple devices.

Algarin was arrested on Aug. 6, 2025, and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility. He was a local paramedic and EMT at the time.

According to ABC News, his most recent employer was Virtua Health. A spokesperson for the health system confirmed he was no longer part of their staff and that they are unable to comment further regarding personnel matters.

"He hangs out with the kids, with us, great guy, hard- working," Rachel Pearce, one of Algarin's neighbors at the time, told ABC. "It's just a shock to hear what he did and endanger himself as well as the kids."

His certificate to practice as a paramedic/EMT has been revoked by the State of New Jersey. Algarin must also register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and is subject to lifetime parole supervision.
