LINDENWOLD, NJ — A 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel of an SUV that he didn't have permission to drive when he hit six teenagers on Tuesday, the Lindenwold Police Department said.
The unidentified minor from Lindenwold was charged with one count of second-degree aggravated assault, six counts of third-degree aggravated assault, and one count of joyriding.
At around 2:10 p.m., officers responded to 409 E. Gibbsboro Road for a report of a crash involving multiple pedestrians.
Helicopter footage from NBC showed an SUV after it crashed through a fence on the sidewalk.
According to authorities, a person was trapped underneath. Five others were also hit and taken to the hospital.
Fire and rescue crews safely lifted the SUV to free the person who was trapped. They were then flown by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital.
All of the patients were between the ages of 14 and 16.
The minor who hit the group was taken to the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center. The crash is still under review and all of the teens who were hit are continuing to recover, officials added.
