BERLIN, NJ — Jacob Fleig, of Berlin, is trying to recover enough to make his way back to America after a cliff-climbing accident while on vacation in Italy, according to NJ 101.5.
Fleig was visiting the country with his fiancée when he was critically injured.
In an online fundraiser organized by his brother Jimmy Dorner, the family said Fleig went through numerous life-saving operations already, and is still not stable enough to be transported back to America.
As of the last update provided, Fleig was still in the Intensive Care Unit at a facility in Italy.
Once back in the United States, he will continue to need surgeries, therapy, and further care.
"Jacob is a light in every life he encounters," Dorner said. "His joyous, humorous, and charismatic personality are the first things everyone notices about him."
As of Wednesday evening, more than $37,000 has been raised of the $45,000 goal to help with his medical procedures, transportation back to the United States, and additional health needs.
"On behalf of my brother," Dorner added, "I am asking for your support, generosity, and prayers."
