Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting Of Gloucester Township Man: Police

A Trenton man is accused of fatally shooting a Blackwood man in broad daylight last week, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Trenton man has been arrested in the daytime fatal shooting of a Gloucester Township man, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Arthur Ford, 29, was arrested on Tuesday after police say he fatally shot 29-year-old Rahkeem Ortiz, of Blackwood, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced.

Ford shot Ortiz in the Broad Street Parking Lot on South Broad Street in Trenton on Aug. 17, according to Onofri. Trenton police responded to the scene just after 1:30 p.m. and found Ortiz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Onofri said.

Ortiz was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Onofri said.

After the shooting, Trenton police received several calls with descriptions of a man who was fleeing the area, Onofri said. Homicide detectives canvassed the area. They used footage from multiple surveillance cameras, as well as witness statements, to positively identify Ford as the shooter, Onofri said.

Ford was arrested at a family member’s home in Maryland by members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is charged with murder and weapons offenses. He is currently being held in Worchester County Jail pending extradition.
