Authorities Release Name Of South Jersey 10-Year-Old Killed By Police Car

Matthew McCloskey of Franklin Township died Sunday when he was hit by the car on Route 47

Authorities have released the name of a 10-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a police car on Route 47 on Sunday night.

Matthew McCloskey of Franklin Township was killed when he was hit by the patrol car driven by Franklin Township Patrolman Nichola Locilento shortly after 7 p.m., according to a news release from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

McCloskey died at the scene, officials said. An autopsy was to be conducted Monday, officials said.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton extended condolences to the family of Matthew McCloskey for what he said was a “heartbreaking loss, made more acute at this time of year.”

Locilento was traveling north on Route 47 en route to a call at the time and hit McCloskey near Elmer Street. Locilento was the only person in the car, authorities said. No other vehicles were involved.

The fatality is under investigation by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
