Boy Among 2 Killed In South Jersey Crash: Police

2 people, including a boy, were pronounced dead at the scene after an SUV and motorcycle collided, authorities said.

VINELAND, NJ — Two people, including a boy, were killed Thursday when an SUV and a motorcycle collided in Vineland, authorities said.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. on Maple Avenue near Becker Drive, police said. The motorcycle driver and a child in the back seat of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, according to law enforcement.

Police identified the decedents as Addiel A. Ortiz, 31, of Millville, and a 9-year-old boy from Ocean View with the initials E.B.

According to the preliminary investigation, Ortiz was driving a 2019 Honda CBR 1000 eastbound on Maple Avenue when it struck the SUV — a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse — police said. The Chevy driver was traveling west on Maple Avenue and turning left into the Joseph E. Romano Sports Complex.

The Chevy driver reported no injuries.

No charges have been filed as of Friday morning. The investigation remains ongoing.
