The opposition to the war in Vietnam was comprised of actors who crossed lines of race, class and political affiliation. United in their desire to end the war, these activists disagreed on tactics, goals and ethics. Kean will discuss the movement and assess whether it shortened or prolonged the war.

Keane is the Executive Director of the Center Global Migration Studies at University of Maryland, an interdisciplinary center examining the meanings and experiences of immigration and migration. Her dissertation explored the activism and contributions of Southern women in the American feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Her teaching and research interests center on social movements in the post-1945 period. She earned her doctoral degree in history from the University of Maryland, College Park.
