Camden County College Student Charged With E-Mail Threat to College

Martha Ruiz allegedly made the threat because she was disgruntled with the college's administration.

A Camden County College student has been arrested after she allegedly sent a threat to the college via email, the Gloucester Township Police Department said Wednesday evening.

Martha Ruiz, 23, of Camden, was charged with third-degree false public alarm after police responded to the threat Wednesday morning.

Ruiz allegedly sent the email from a computer in the college’s Cyber Cafe. Computers in the cafe are available to the public.

The email was sent to the Vice Dean of Camden County College and read, “THERE IS A THREAT COMING TO THIS CAMPUS TOMORROW AT 130 PM!”

The threat was reported at 9:08 a.m., and police worked quickly to develop Ruiz as a suspect.

Following a search of Ruiz’s residence, police determined that the threat was “not credible.” She allegedly sent the threat to disrupt the school day because she was disgruntled with the college’s administration.

“The quick work of the Camden County College Public Safety Department and the Gloucester Township Police Department ensured the safety and security of the students and faculty of the college,” police said in the release.

She was charged and released pending a future court date.

According to her personal Facebook page, Ruiz is an ESL Assistant at the college.
