Camden County Coronavirus Cases Climb As NJ Issues New Warning

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County reported 36 additional cases of the coronavirus on Friday as Gov. Phil Murphy issued a new warning about the increase in cases statewide.

“Today marks our fifth consecutive day with more than 30 new cases of COVID-19, the most we have seen in more than a month,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “Thanks to the hard work of thousands of residents, it can feel like this pandemic is subsiding, but weeks like this make clear that this deadly virus is still extremely active in our community. If we let our guards down, it will spread rapidly, which is why we have to continue to wear masks, social distance, and do everything in our power to protect our circles.”

On Thursday, there were 37 new cases reported, and there were 40 new cases announced on Wednesday. There were 30 on Tuesday and 35 on Monday.

Altogether, there are 10,343 cases of the coronavirus in Camden County with 574 confirmed deaths. No new deaths were announced on Friday, and trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

Thursday and Friday accounted for the highest two-day total for new coronavirus cases in New Jersey since Aug. 14, Murphy said during a news conference on Friday. There were 617 new cases reported on Thursday and 519 new cases on Friday.

According to the Camden County Department of Health, there are 1,399 confirmed cases among residents at the county's long-term care facilities, with 316 deaths. Another 580 cases were reported among staff members, with three deaths.
