Camden County Correctional Facility Swears In First Female Warden

Karen Taylor is the first female warden in the county's 172-year history.

It hadn’t happened in 172 years, until Tuesday.

Karen Taylor was sworn in as the Camden County Correctional Facility’s Warden on Tuesday, the first female warden in the county’s 172-year history.

Christopher Foschini, of Laurel Springs, was sworn in as the Correctional Facility’s new Deputy Warden.

“The Freeholder Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Taylor to the position of warden. Her professionalism and dedication to the Camden County Correctional Facility will allow her to lead the institution into the future,” Camden County Freeholder Jonathan Young, liaison to the Department of Corrections, said. “This is a historic day for this institution and I’m proud to stand with Warden Taylor as we break another glass ceiling in law enforcement here in Camden County.”

Taylor joined the Camden County Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer in 1997. She became a sergeant in 2001, and was promoted to Administrative Lieutenant overseeing training needs and developing new training opportunities to improve programs in 2007.

She attained the rank of Administrative Captain in 2013, and took on the responsibility of directing the development and implementation of compliance-related policies and procedures throughout the jail.

Foschini joined the Camden County Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer in 1995.

He was promoted to investigator in the Internal Affairs Unit and attained the rank of Sergeant in 2005. The same year, he became the unit commander of both the Internal Affairs Unit and commander of the Gang Unit.

In August of 2010, he was promoted to Lieutenant, and in 2014 he attained the rank of Captain. In 2016, he became an Administrative Captain and as assigned to update the Facilities Policies and Procedures.

“I believe Karen and Chris have the right skillsets to make this institution a model in corrections,” Young said. “These promotions provide us with a capable, intelligent leadership contingent that will manage our facility into future.”
