Camden County Delivers More Than 46K Meals To Seniors In Need

More than 46,000 meals have been delivered since the county expanded its program due to new coronavirus.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — More than 46,000 meals have been delivered to seniors since the Camden County Division of Senior and Disabled Services expanded its meal delivery program in response to the outbreak of new coronavirus, officials announced on Wednesday.

In total, more than 1,900 individual seniors have received nutritious meals as they navigate the unprecedented crisis represented by coronavirus. The division is now routinely delivering more than 2,000 meals each day, and has distributed 10,510 meals in the last week, officials said.

“As this pandemic drags on, the Department of Health has not missed a step in keeping Camden County seniors from going hungry. Every weekday since March 18, roughly two dozen delivery drivers have distributed thousands of meals to at-risk residents,” Camden County Freeholder Jonathan Young said. “We continue to be in awe of the commitment shown by the men and women from the Division of Senior Services, Public Works, Parks, Building and Ops, and other county employees who are making these deliveries. Like other workers on the front lines of this fight, they leave for work every morning to ensure that others can stay home and stay safe. Their service to our community will not be forgotten.”
