Camden County Surpasses 1,000 Coronavirus-Related Deaths
County health officials announced 25 new COVID-19 deaths and 59 new positive cases as they said the pandemic may be be entering a new phase.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — More than 1,000 Camden County residents have now died from the coronavirus since the pandemic began after county health officials announced 25 new deaths along with 59 new confirmed cases on Friday.
The 25 deaths takes Camden County’s death toll to 1,008, officials said, while a total of 37,765 people have tested positive. The new deaths included one man in his 40s from Berlin County, five people in their 50s, three people in their 60s and three people in their 70s, officials said. The remaining deaths involved county residents ages 80 and above.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families as we learn of 25 additional members of our community who have succumbed to this disease,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said in a news release Friday “With cases down and vaccinations beginning, we have an opportunity to start a new phase of this crisis. If we stay focused, wear masks, and social distance, we can stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The 59 new confirmed cases include four females listed as juveniles and the biggest number of the new cases reside in the City of Camden, officials said. In addition, health officials said Friday that among the county’s total number of cases, 2,283 have occurred within residents of the county’s 56 long-term care facilities. In addition to the long-term care facility residents, 1,300 staff members at those facilities have tested positive for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
