Check Out the Philadelphia Orchestra at Longwood Gardens This Weekend

Carve out some grown-up time away from the typical Fourth of July fireworks and barbecues this weekend to escape to Longwood Gardens for a concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra Saturday night.

Longwood Gardens is spectacular—lush, manicured and totally gorgeous. The Gardens include 300 acres of space open to the public to explore. The concert will be held with Longwood's expansive meadow as a backdrop.

Be on the look out for lightening bugs and sweet fragrance of summer flowers drifting through the air as you take in the sounds of this world-class orchestra.

The Philadelphia Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Asher Fisch, will perform music from Beethoven, Strauss and Bruch.  Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is part of the concert—a total delight to the ears. This is a once-a-year performance for the orchestra, which typically performs indoors at the Kimmel Center.

Grab dinner on-site at one of Longwood's restaurants (reservations are required at both The Terrace Restaurant and 1906) or pre-order a snack box (that includes local artisan cheeses) for $22. 

The concert kicks off at 7 p.m., but arrive by 6 p.m. to take a leisurely stroll through the gardens to the concert site. This week, zinnas, roses and cannas are in bloom.

Tickets for lawn seats are just $35 per person. A limited number of chairs will be available for rent, but Longwood recommends that you bring your own chairs or blankets to cuddle up under the stars.

Located in Kennett Square, PA, Longwood Gardens is about a 45-minute drive from Gloucester Township.
