Crane, Vessel Catch Fire Near Walt Whitman Bridge In Gloucester

Emergency officials said the public should avoid the area, close windows and doors, and more so as not to be exposed to excess smoke.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — A fire at a crane and vessel near the Walt Whitman Bridge in Gloucester City is under control, according to emergency officials.

NBC10 reports the fire started at about 9:30 a.m. on an industrial crane.

The Westville Fire Department said the fire also involved a vessel at the Holts Marine Terminal.

According to Action News, the fire appeared to have started on a crane working on the Pacific Harmony cargo ship.

The Delaware River Port Authority said all lanes of the Walt Whitman Bridge have reopened and normal traffic patterns have resumed.

Philadelphia emergency officials said the public should avoid the area to prevent smoke exposure.

Anyone in the area of the fire should avoid going outside, wearing a mask if going outside is necessary, close all windows and doors, and recirculate air with fans to avoid bringing more air pollution into homes.
