Floods Close Routes 47, 130 As Rain Plagues South Jersey Commute

A flood watch in South Jersey remains in effect until Thursday evening.

SOUTH JERSEY — Several highways in South Jersey remain closed Wednesday morning because of flooding as rain continues to fall.

Portions of Route 130 and Route 47 are closed in the Brooklawn/Westville area, where flooding has plagued the roadways over the years, according to the NJ Department of Transportation.

Route 47 is closed in both directions at Route 130 in Westville. Detours have been posted. Meanwhile, Route 130 is closed in both directions at Route 551 in Brooklawn and has also been detoured.

A flood watch for much of the state remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, with 1 to 3 inches of rain predicted in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the flood watch says. "Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas."
