Gas Leak Closes Elementary School In Camden Co.

Staff members smelled gas inside the building when they arrived Tuesday morning.

MOUNT EPHRAIM, NJ — An elementary school in Camden County is closed Tuesday because of a gas leak.

Staff members smelled gas inside Mount Ephraim's Mary Bray Elementary School when they arrived Tuesday morning. Officials determined that one of the boilers had a gas leak.

School was canceled Tuesday so the boiler could be repaired. It's unclear as of Tuesday morning when classes will resume.

The district, Mount Ephraim Public Schools, plans to issue an update later Tuesday.

"The company that works on our boilers is en route, but unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time for the repair," the district said at about 9 a.m.

Mary Bray Elementary School serves students from pre-K through fourth grade.

Mary Bray initially planned a 2-hour delay when the odor was under investigation. Once firefighters and utility workers confirmed the gas leak, school was canceled.

The boiler has been secured, and the school was properly vented, according to the Mount Ephraim Fire Department.
