Gloucester Township Police Save Overdose Victim Using Narcan

Police revived a 19-year-old Clayton man who was visiting the township for a party over the weekend.

Gloucester Township Police saved an overdose victim’s life using Narcan over the Labor Day weekend.

The Gloucester Township Police Department responded to North Black Horse Pike in Blackwood for report of a man behind a home found unconscious and foaming at the mouth around 2:11 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The victim was a 19-year-old Clayton man who was visiting Gloucester Township for a party, police said. When they found him, his breathing was shallow and his pulse rate indicated he had overdosed on an opiate.

Officers administered naloxone, helping the victim recover. He regained consciousness and normal respiration.

He was transported by ambulance to JFK Stratford Hospital for medical evaluation.

Police departments across the state began using the heroin antidote in 2013, following the passage of the Opioid Antidote and Overdose Prevention Act. The antidote reverses the effects of a heroin overdose.

All GTPD vehicles are equipped with a Narcan kit for use if needed.
