GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Gloucester Township woman in her 60s is the 60th township fatality related to the coronavirus since the pandemic began in March, according to Camden County officials.

She was the first Gloucester Township to the virus in two weeks. The township's first death was reported back on March 30. The first 30 deaths in the township came between March 30 and June 17, and it was another three months after that before the township hit 60 fatalities.

The Gloucester Township woman was among five new coronavirus-related deaths announced in Camden County on Thursday. The others included a Hi-Nella woman in her 60s, an Audubon woman in her 70s, a Winslow woman in her 70s and a Winslow woman in her 80s.

There have now been 574 confirmed deaths related to the coronavirus in Camden County. There were also 37 new cases of the coronavirus announced countywide, bringing the county total to 10,307.

Five of the new cases involved Gloucester Township residents. There are now 1,029 cases of the coronavirus in Gloucester Township. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

“I am extremely saddened to learn that five members of the Camden County family have lost their life due to COVID-19 in recent days. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “We are continuing to see a slight increase in our daily cases relative to where we were a week ago. I know that this pandemic has been difficult, but we have to keep fighting to protect one another and to save lives. Please continue to wear a mask when leaving your home, maintain social distance when possible, and work with our contract tracing team when they call.”

The following information is available concerning the new coronavirus cases in Gloucester Township:

  • A woman in her 30s;
  • A man in his 20s;
  • A girl older than 10;
  • A man in his 50s; and
  • A woman in her 50s.

According to the Camden County Department of Health, there are 1,398 confirmed cases among residents at the county's long-term care facilities, with 316 deaths. Another 578cases were reported among staff members, with three deaths.
