BLACKWOOD, NJ — The high cost of fuel needed to run school buses should not negatively impact the Gloucester Township School District Budget for the 2021-2022 school year, the district superintendent told Patch.

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey is currently about $4.16 a gallon, according to AAA. One year ago, the average price was $2.92 a gallon.

The current gas prices were not known when New Jersey school districts were planning their school budgets for the 2021-2022 school year.

However, Gloucester Township School District Superintendent John Bilodeau told Patch that the price differences between then and now should not hurt the school district.

"I am confident — because of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic — we would have funds that were intended for another reason ... that we can now transfer to cover fuel costs," he said in an interview.
