Highland Basketball Teams Each Start Season 1-1

High school basketball season began over the weekend.

The Highland High School boys basketball team is 1-1 after two games following a two-point win over Clearview on Monday.

Highland downed Clearview, 58-56, behind 17 points from Christian Scafidi, according to nj.com.

Naquan Council had 15 points, followed by a 13-point effort from Darius Kinnel.

The win came three days after Highland dropped a three-point decision to Gloucester Catholic, 74-71, to start the season. Council dropped 28 points in that game, followed by Scafidi, who had 24.

Oakcrest 59, Triton 46: Despite 19 points from Aaron Bailey, Triton dropped its season opener. Triton outscored Oakcrest, 17-13, in the fourth quarter.

Brittany Martin led the way with 14 points as the Timber Creek High School girls basketball team opened the season with a 51-24 win over Eastern on Friday, according to nj.com. She also had four rebounds and five steals.

Joie Brittingham had 10 points for Timber Creek, which held the Vikings to single digits in each quarter. She also had seven rebounds.

Summer Pierce had five points, six rebounds and two assists.

Highland 44, Deptford 30: Devon Graf led the way with 17 points to help Highland pick up the win in their season opener. Ayanna Bey had 15 points in the win. Highland led 34-29 after three quarters, and outscored Deptford 10-1 in the final stanza.

Clearview 34, Highland 26: Highland fell to 1-1 with the loss. Bey led all scorers with 16 points for Highland.
