Highland High School Football Team Edges Deptford

Highland won on a blocked PAT.

In a high-scoring high school football game, it was a blocked extra point that proved the difference.

Highland defeated Deptford, 35-34, on Friday night, according to nj.com. The blocked extra point came in the fourth quarter, after Riley Giles scored his third touchdown of the night for the Spartans, on a 2-yard run, to pull Deptford within one point. It was the first blocked PAT of the night for either team.

Giles also threw two touchdown passes, of 13 yards to Darius Dowd, and of 2 yards to Dante Waugh.

Gabriel Martorano had five touchdowns for Highland. He threw two touchdown passes to Alberick Small in the first half, including a 40-yarder touchdown in the first quarter, followed by a 67-yarder in the second. Martorano also threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Deron Hicks, and had touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards.

Highland improved to 3-3.
