Highland, Timber Creek Girls Basketball Teams Earn Playoff Spots

Highland is the No. 2 seed, and Timber Creek is No. 6 in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 tournament.

The Highland and Timber Creek high school girls basketball teams might have to decide a district title if one of them hopes to be the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 girls basketball champion.

Highland (21-0) is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will host No. 15 Hammonton (7-13) in the first round on Feb. 29, 5 p.m.

The winner plays the winner of the game between No. 7 Delsea and No. 10 Toms River South in the quarterfinals on March 2.

Timber Creek (14-6) is the No. 6 and will host No. 11 Seneca (7-14) in the first round on Feb. 29, 5 p.m.

The winner plays the winner of the game between No. 3 Toms River East and No. 14 Woodrow Wilson in the quarterfinals on March 2.

If Highland and Timber Creek each win their first two games, they would meet in the semifinals on March 4. It would be the only time this season they play each other, and the only game against a district team for Timber Creek.

Highland defeated district rival Triton, 52-16, on Jan. 14, and the teams are slated to play a second time on Wednesday.

Despite being undefeated Highland was rewarded with just the N0. 2 seed. Ocean City earned the top seed, despite a 15-2 record. The Red Raiders will host No. 16 Central Regional in the first round on Feb. 29, 7 p.m.

The winner faces the winner of the game between No. 8 Cumberland and No. 9 Absegami in the quarterfinals on March 2.

Winslow is the No. 4 seed, and hosts No. 13 Deptford in the first round on Feb. 29, 5 p.m. Mainland is the No. 5 and hosts No. 12 Atlantic Tech in the first round on Feb. 29, 6 p.m.

The championship game is slated for March 7.
