House Explodes, Catches Fire In South Jersey

A man was airlifted to the hospital after his home became fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

COMMERCIAL TOWNSHIP, NJ — A house exploded and became fully engulfed in flames Monday morning in Cumberland County, police said.

Crews responded to the fire just before 4:45 a.m. on Battle Lane in Commercial Township. The resident — a 60-year-old man — was airlifted to the hospital with "moderate" injuries, said State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

A neighbor could feel his house shaking from blocks away as the fire started, he told NBC10 Philadelphia.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Lebron told Patch.
