GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Gloucester Township, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

Gloucester Township also saw its second fatality related to coronavirus this week. A second Gloucester Township man in his 60s died after testing positive for new coronavirus, Camden County officials announced this week. A Cherry Hill woman in her 90s died on the same day.

As of Monday morning, total number of cases in Camden County was 562, with 10 fatalities. The Gloucester Township total is now 76, with two fatalities.

Statewide, there are 41,090 cases and 1,003 fatalities as of Monday afternoon.

SCHOOLS

All schools in New Jersey remain closed in response to the new coronavirus outbreak, state officials said. MORE.

Online kindergarten registration for the K-8 Public School District began on April 1. Registration takes place here. More information can be found on the school district’s website.

Spring break in the Black Horse Pike Regional School District will continue as scheduled. The district wants to see pictures of their students’ remote learning. For information on where to send those pictures, visit the school district’s website.

BUSINESS

SICK HOAX

A social media post claiming that a Gloucester Township police officer had died after testing positive for the coronavirus was a hoax. Police Chief David Harkins said the hoax was "a sick prank" and "despicable."

FEDERAL FUNDING

It was announced last week that Gloucester Township will receive a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for $180,120 to combat the outbreak.
