Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Gloucester Township.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Gloucester Township, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in Camden County is now 3,750, 997 of which are connected to the county's 56 long-term care facilities. Nursing homes are also connected to 156 of the county's 207 deaths, according to the Camden County Department of Health.

SCHOOLS

All schools in New Jersey will remain closed for the rest of the academic year in response to the new coronavirus outbreak, state officials said. The announcement has left the Black Horse Pike Regional Public School District exploring options for graduation.

On Thursday, the district’s Board of Education passed an $80,617,409 budget with a 2.42 percent tax rate decrease. A recent research report from the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers University–Camden indicated that the district would have to raise property taxes by 10.6 percent if there were to be a 10 percent reduction in school aid. TAXES

Earlier this week, Gloucester Township extended the grace period for property taxes that were due May 1. Taxes were still due that day, but the grace period to pay without penalty would be extended from May 11 to June 1.
