Laurel Springs Fire Department Receives FEMA Grant For New Equipment
The $126,667 grant will help pay for 19 new self-breathing apparatus units.

The Laurel Springs Fire Department will receive a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for $126,667, Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced on Tuesday.
The grant will help the fire department acquire 19 new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) units for its firefighters, replacing old, outdated equipment.
“This grant award is for the purchase of complete SCBA units, which are one of the most important protections for firefighters,” Laurel Springs Fire Chief Kenneth Cheeseman said. “Without this grant award, the Laurel Springs Fire Department would not have been able to purchase this equipment and would have to continue to use outdated SCBA. We are very thankful to Congressman Norcross for his assistance with this grant.”

“Our firefighters can’t be on the front lines of danger with outdated equipment,” Norcross said. “That’s why I fight in Washington, DC for our local heroes, like the brave volunteers of Laurel Springs Fire Department, to be equipped with the modern gear they need to do their jobs safely.”
Norcross has successfully supported nearly $6 million in federal government grants for nine Southern New Jersey Fire Departments in 2016.
