Man, 20, Fatally Shot In Camden: Prosecutor

The incident marks the city's 2nd reported gun death of the new year.

CAMDEN, NJ — A Camden shooting that killed a young man Saturday night is under investigation, authorities said.

The death of Joel Maldonado, 20, marks the city's second-reported gun death of the new year. Another Camden resident — Kyle Young, 59 — was shot and killed Jan. 10, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO).

Officers responded to a gunfire alert from ShotSpotter at 6:31 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of Grant Street. They found the victim — later identified as Maldonado — suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at the scene, the CCPO said.

Maldonado was transported to Cooper University Hospital. The Camden resident was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m., the CCPO said.
