Man Broke Into 4 Unlocked Vehicles In Gloucester Twp.: Police
Authorities say they caught him after he stole items from vehicles throughout the neighborhood.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man was arrested early Thursday after police say he broke into several vehicles in Gloucester Township.
Gilbert J. Ferguson, 45, of Lindenwold, burglarized five vehicles overall, around the Old Black Horse Pike in the township's Hilltop section, police said. He stole items from four of them, which were left unlocked, according to law enforcement.
Police were dispatched to one of the incidents at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday on the Old Black Horse Pike. The caller reported a man in dark clothing trying to break into a vehicle.

During the investigation, officers determined that the same person — later identified as Ferguson — burglarized additional vehicles in the area.
Patrol officers found Ferguson on Landing Road. He was detained on Brewer Avenue after a brief chase on foot.

Ferguson had items on him that linked him to additional vehicle burglaries in the area, police said.
He was charged with the following:
- third-degree burglary (four counts)
- criminal attempted burglary (third-degree)
- theft (fourth-degree)
- theft (disorderly persons offense)
Ferguson was placed in the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Police reminded the public to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables.
