Man Dealt Crack Out Of Firetruck In South Jersey: Police

A fire department sold the vehicle months ago but received complaints about the engine operating throughout South Jersey.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A South Jersey man tried to deal crack cocaine out of a firetruck but ended up in a police vehicle, authorities said. Officers in Franklin Township, Salem County, say they found William Henderson in the 1987 Piece Fire Engine with 39 bags of the suspected drug packaged for re-sale.

Police responded at about 9 a.m. April 13 to a report of a suspicious man driving a firetruck around the neighborhood, said Matthew DeCesari, the township's deputy police chief. They found Henderson in the vehicle, which was registered to an Ocean County fire department.

Fire officials informed police that the vehicle was sold several months ago, but they received several complaints about the truck still being operated throughout South Jersey. DeCesari declined to tell Patch which fire department had owned the truck.
