Man Fatally Hit By Car While Running From Police On I-676: AG

A 26-year-old man was hit by a passing car when he attempted to run from Camden County Police this weekend, the Attorney General said.

CAMDEN, NJ — A 26-year-old man has died after he was hit by a car on I-676 while running from police, according to the Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the incident.

Camden County Police stopped the man, who has not been identified by authorities, on Saturday night, according to authorities.

The man attempted to drive off, but he crashed the car he was driving in an underpass, authorities said. He then got out of the car and ran up an embankment onto I-676.

He was fatally hit by a passing car at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of Pine Street, authorities said. The car was not a law-enforcement vehicle, according to authorities.

The Attorney General’s Office is required by law to investigate a person’s death when it occurs during an encounter with a police officer. No further details were released.
