Stabbing Victim's Body Found In Alley In South Jersey; Suspect Charged: Police

The victim was found behind a building after getting stabbed multiple times, authorities said.

BRIDGETON, NJ — A suspect was charged in the stabbing death of a man whose body was found in a downtown Bridgeton alley, police said Monday afternoon.

Cornell Becton, 37, of Millville, was charged in the death of Wilbert Pace, who was found dead early Friday morning, authorities said.

Becton was arrested at his home on unrelated charges at about 5 p.m. Friday. In the death of Pace, he was charged with homicide, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He's being held without bail in Cumberland County Jail as of Monday afternoon.

A disturbance was reported to police at about 3:30 a.m. Friday on E Commerce Street, between Laurel Street and Mayor Aitken Drive. Behind a building, officers found Pace, who had been stabbed multiple times.

Police aided the victim until EMTs pronounced him dead shortly after.

Pace, of Bridgeton, was 59 years old.

Bridgeton police and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office continue to investigate.
