Man Fatally Stabbed On Fourth Of July In South Jersey: Police

The victim was found bleeding and unconscious outside of his home, authorities said.

BRIDGETON, NJ — A man was charged after a fatal stabbing outside of the victim's Cumberland County home on Independence Day, officials said.

Selvin Omar Garcia-Ramirez was charged Thursday with murder and weapons offenses in the death of Edwin Lopez-Parra in Bridgeton. Garcia-Ramirez is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.

Officers responded at about 3:15 a.m. to the 200 block of Atlantic Street, where Lopez-Parra was bleeding and unconscious, police said. Lopez-Parra, 26, died while en route to Inspira Medical Center Vineland.

Garcia-Ramirez, of W Commerce Street in Bridgeton, was arrested at about 9 a.m. on Cedar Street.

The victim and suspect knew each other, says Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari. But he did not disclose their relationship or a motive.

The stabbing was an isolated incident, police said.
