Blackwood Man Killed By Drunk Driver Identified: Police

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a large box truck while walking on the Black Horse Pike on Monday has been identified.

Alex Ibbeken, 34, of the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township, was killed while walking on the 1200 block of the Black Horse Pike in Gloucester Township on Monday, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The truck's driver was arrested for DWI, Gloucester Township police previously announced. No additional criminal charges were filed against the driver, who has not been identified, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Ibbeken was walking down the Black Horse Pike when he was hit by the truck, which was backing down the shoulder of the road just before 5 p.m. Monday, police said.

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was pronounced deceased, police said. The driver remained on the scene, and was later arrested for DWI, police said.

"You will be missed by many," a friend wrote on social media. " I still remember you as the tiny surfer kid who moved in across the street 20+ years ago with that whacked bowl hair cut with those ears sticking out looking like the Keebler Elf. You were always like a little brother to me and my clutch horseshoe partner. I am thankful we got to hang out as much as we did."
